英検1級英作文：オリンピック
2021年第1回の英検1級受験時に、英作文・面接対策として自分が書き溜めた原稿を公開しています。
Grammarlyに頼りつつ書いたもので、完全に独学で勉強していたため、不自然な表現や文法的に間違った英文が含まれている可能性もありますので、ご注意ご了承ください。
実績としては、本番は英作文・面接どちらもこのブログで公開している原稿から、使える部分を流用したような格好で解答を行いました。
得点もそれぞれ英作文が745/850で9割近い点数が獲れ, 面接は615/850と合格ギリギリの水準ですが、2分スピーチセクションであまりの緊張から10秒近く言葉が出てこなかった所から原稿の内容を駆使した決死の、華麗なる逆転劇があってのものですので、内容としてはまあ悪くない水準にあると思います。

Do the benefits of hosting the Olympic Games outweigh the disadvantages?
Nowadays, there have been global controversies as to the merits of hosting the Olympic Games, especially in already developed countries. Although the risks of hosting countries are now standing out through the confusion of the Tokyo Olympics swayed by the COVID-19 spread, I think that the benefits of hosting the Olympic Games outweigh its disadvantages for the following three reasons.
Firstly, hosting the Olympics will boost the domestic economy. During the event period, a number of tourists from overseas will visit the hosting countries, which will greatly benefit the tourism industry of the country. In addition, while preparing for the event, an increase in investment in infrastructure is expectable, which will stimulate the economic activities of the hosting country.
Secondly, especially in developing countries, the above-mentioned expansion of infrastructure will improve the standard of living for the people of the hosting country. Infrastructures newly constructed for the Olympics such as transportation facilities will enhance the convenience of the daily life of the country’s people.
Finally, an increase in employment can be also expectable. Infrastructures constructed for the Olympics will be used by the country’s citizens also after the event, which means that there is a need for workers to run them and can provide job opportunities.
In conclusion, for these three reasons, its contribution to boosting the domestic economy, enhancing the quality of lives of the country’s citizens, and providing job opportunities, I think that the benefits of hosting the Olympic Games outweigh its downsides.
昨今、特に先進国では、オリンピック開催の是非が世界的に議論されています。COVID-19の普及に振り回された東京オリンピックの混乱を経て、開催国のリスクが目立つようになりましたが、私は次の3つの理由から、オリンピック開催のメリットはデメリットを上回ると考えています。
まず、オリンピックを開催することで国内経済が活性化します。開催期間中、海外から多くの観光客が開催国を訪れることになり、国内の観光産業に大きな利益をもたらします。また、開催に向けての準備期間中は、インフラへの投資の増加が見込まれ、開催国の経済活動の活性化につながります。
第二に、特に発展途上国においては、上記のようなインフラの拡充は、開催国の人々の生活水準の向上につながります。オリンピックのために新たに建設された交通機関などのインフラは、その国の人々の日常生活の利便性を高めます。
最後に、雇用の増加も期待できます。オリンピックのために建設されたインフラは、イベント終了後も国民に利用されるため、その運営のための労働者が必要となり、雇用の機会を提供することができる。
結論として、国内経済の活性化、国民の生活の質の向上、雇用機会の提供、これら3つの理由から、オリンピック開催のメリットはデメリットを上回ると考えます。
