英検1級英作文：投票の義務化

2021年第1回の英検1級受験時に、英作文・面接対策として自分が書き溜めた原稿を公開しています。

Grammarlyに頼りつつ書いたもので、完全に独学で勉強していたため、不自然な表現や文法的に間違った英文が含まれている可能性もありますので、ご注意ご了承ください。

実績としては、本番は英作文・面接どちらもこのブログで公開している原稿から、使える部分を流用したような格好で解答を行いました。

得点もそれぞれ英作文が745/850で9割近い点数が獲れ, 面接は615/850と合格ギリギリの水準ですが、2分スピーチセクションであまりの緊張から10秒近く言葉が出てこなかった所から原稿の内容を駆使した決死の、華麗なる逆転劇があってのものですので、内容としてはまあ悪くない水準にあると思います。

Should be voting compulsory?

Nowadays, the mandatory voting system is one of the highly controversial issues around the world. Although some people argue that the system infringes on freedom of choice or causes political turmoils controlled by populism, personally, I think that we should promote compulsory voting to help the country’s development in this rapidly diverse society for the following three reasons.

Firstly, mandatory voting could bring political innovation to the country. By increasing the voting rate of young people who are open-minded to new thinking, the number of innovative bills will increase to canvass their supports, which will lead to politically necessary changes.

Secondly, the mandatory voting system will enhance awareness about national politics. It will improve grave apathy to the society and heighten people’s social and economic knowledge level, which will consequently promote the country’s political maturation.

Finally, obligatory voting has the possibility of advancing the country’s economy. The above-mentioned heightened knowledge and interest in the citizen’s own country can lead to active economic activities such as stock investment at the individual level, which will invigorate the country’s economy.

In conclusion, for the above-mentioned three reasons, stimulating political innovation, enhancing people’s knowledge of politics, and contributing to the country’s economic growth, I think that voting should be compulsory.
